Long before Dolly Parton became one of the world’s most recognizable entertainers, she was one of twelve children growing up in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Her childhood was shaped by music, family traditions, church, and the everyday experiences of living in a large household. Dolly was born to Robert Lee and Avie Lee Parton, who raised six sons and six daughters with modest means but a strong appreciation for music.
