Small, hard bumps forming near the last joints of the fingers—close to the nails—are a concern many families notice over time. They often start as a single lump and gradually appear on multiple fingers, which can make them seem like they are spreading.One of the most common causes of these bumps is a form of hand osteoarthritis. When this condition affects the joints closest to the fingertips, it can lead to firm, bony growths known as Heberden’s nodes. These develop slowly and may appear on several fingers.
