I still remember the silence after my husband left. It wasn’t peaceful; it echoed through every empty corner of our apartment. He had taken the couch, dining table, television, and even the curtains. Claire explained that Daniel had lied to her. He told her we had been divorced for years and that he was simply helping me and Leo out of kindness.
