Former Young TV Star Remembered After Passing at 33

A former child actor best known for his role in the 2006 family film How to Eat Fried Worms has died at the age of 33. He passed away on Sunday, February 8, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His mother confirmed the news and said the family is awaiting official autopsy results to determine the cause of death. The sudden loss has left fans and loved ones shocked and deeply saddened by the unexpected tragedy.

Born in Austin, Texas, he showed a passion for performing at an early age, appearing in local theater productions such as Aladdin, The Wizard of Oz, Annie, and Grease. At just 10 years old, he toured nationally with Barney’s Colorful World, marking a major milestone in his young career and opening the door to future opportunities in film and television projects.

His most recognizable role came in How to Eat Fried Worms, where he played Plug as part of an ensemble cast that earned a Young Artist Award. In recent years, he had been living in Oklahoma and focusing on rebuilding his life, including maintaining sobriety — an achievement his family said he was proud of and deeply committed to each day.

His mother shared that he recently sought medical care for severe pain and had been diagnosed with shingles. She believes complications may have played a role in his passing. Blake Garrett is remembered for his talent, resilience, and the joy he brought to audiences during his early career and beyond.
