Seeing a dark, painful spot suddenly appear on your child’s foot can be frightening. While it may look serious, in many cases it is simply a blood blister caused by minor trauma.Blood blisters form when small blood vessels under the skin break due to pressure or friction. The skin stays intact, trapping blood underneath and creating a raised, dark red or purple bubble.

This can happen from tight shoes, long periods of running, or accidental impact. Even though it may look alarming, the body usually heals it naturally within one to two weeks.The area can be very sensitive, and your child may avoid putting weight on it. In this case, the focus should be on reducing discomfort and preventing further irritation.

It is important not to pop the blister. The skin covering it protects against infection and allows the healing process to happen safely.You can apply a cold compress to ease pain and swelling. Keep the area clean, dry, and loosely covered if needed to avoid rubbing against shoes or socks.

However, you should watch for warning signs. Increasing redness, swelling, warmth, pus, or fever may indicate an infection and require medical attention.If the blister appears without a clear cause, becomes extremely painful, or keeps returning, consult a doctor to rule out underlying issues.In most cases, patience and gentle care are enough.
