Two Men Charged Under New Law Addressing AI-Generated Digital Content Abuse

Federal prosecutors have announced charges against two individuals accused of using artificial intelligence tools to create and distribute manipulated digital content involving women. The case is among the first connected to the recently introduced Take It Down Act, legislation designed to address the spread of non-consensual AI-generated imagery and other harmful digital content online.

Authorities identified the suspects as Cornelius Shannon, 51, and Arturo Hernandez, 20. Prosecutors stated that the individuals allegedly operated separately while engaging in similar online activities involving digitally altered images and videos. Officials say the content received significant attention across online platforms and raised concerns about privacy, consent, and the misuse of emerging technology.

The legislation, signed into law during the administration of Donald Trump, received bipartisan support from lawmakers focused on addressing online safety and digital abuse. Supporters of the law say it strengthens protections for individuals affected by non-consensual intimate imagery and establishes clearer legal consequences for distributing manipulated content intended to harm or exploit others.

Government officials and technology experts continue to highlight the growing challenges associated with AI-generated media and the importance of responsible technology use. Lawmakers, advocacy groups, and major technology companies have increasingly supported efforts aimed at improving online protections, encouraging accountability, and providing victims with clearer options for reporting and removing harmful digital material.
