Ransom Note Emerges After Disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s Mom

The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie,

took a more alarming turn after purported ransom notes were sent to multiple media outlets.

Authorities say two notes with similar language have surfaced, though investigators have

not confirmed their authenticity or whether they are directly connected to Guthrie’s disappearance. Still, officials stress the notes are being treated seriously.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators are evaluating the messages as potential evidence.

Details have not been released due to the sensitivity of the case, but every lead is being examined in coordination with the FBI.

One alleged ransom note was sent to TMZ. According to the outlet, it demanded a substantial

amount of Bitcoin—reportedly in the millions—sent to a specific address, with a deadline and implied consequences if unmet.

The note also claimed an item inside Nancy Guthrie’s home had been damaged. TMZ reported

the information was turned over to the sheriff’s office, though officials have not confirmed what, if anything, was affected.

Law enforcement has acknowledged the reports publicly, urging anyone with information to submit

tips directly to investigators. Officials emphasize that all leads are routed to detectives working jointly with federal authorities.

Sheriff Nanos has said he believes Guthrie was taken against her will, possibly through

kidnapping or abduction. Authorities have not confirmed whether evidence found in the home included blood, nor have they reported any known injuries.

Investigators also revealed that around 2 a.m. Sunday, Guthrie’s pacemaker stopped syncing

with her Apple devices. Her phone and Apple Watch were later found inside the home.

With no suspects identified and the search shifting toward investigative work, officials say time is critical, as Guthrie relies on essential medication.
